"Oh Please Mama, I want lots of homework throughout year 5! Please can I join the 11+ programme from Teach Wessex".
The Teach Wessex team have a wealth of experience preparing students for the 11+.
There are no magic answers when it comes to being ready to sit the 11+. Weekly group or individual tuition can help your child feel better prepared and to demonstrate their potential.
Our lessons are based around the three parts of the 11 plus exam. Our teaching focuses on exam techniques, the required knowledge and year 6 skills necessary to maximise every students results.
Our group sessions and 1-1 lessons are taught lessons. This means that students are taught by the teacher. Time is spent working on the whiteboard, practising skills and looking at simulated exam materials. We do not use computers in lessons and do not direct children to work through text books. These are all good study techniques but only for independent learning. Our services are based around the teacher teaching your child, not supporting your child to work independently.
121 support- tried and tested and individually tailored. Progress reports and weekly feedback.
Focus groups of 4. These groups are a great way to study for the exam but on a supportive small table of 4. Your child will also have the same teacher and will soon feel confident and engaged. This is a great cost effective way to prepare without the cost of 121 support.
Group familiarisation sessions. These groups of 6 are an opportunity to become familiar with the assessment, learn the techniques and trouble shoot any problems.
We provide homework to help children continue their learning in between lessons. We recommend that children begin their 11+ journey with a Skills Assessment. The Skills Assessment is conducted by one of our experienced 11+ tutors. We then prepare you a report identifying your child's areas of strength and the areas that require development. This then gives you the option of helping your child prepare for the 11+ at home, having 1 to 1 11+ prep sessions or jumping head first into one of our groups!
Preparing for the 11+ exam is something that requires more than just an hour a week with us. It is an inclusive process in which you communicate with your child's tutor and they support you to support your child with their home study. We provide reading lists, study book lists and feedback and guidance throughout the process.
